This will be a shorter edition this week, as I don’t have much to say about this tune that the tune doesn’t say about itself. We’re heading back to the world of cinematic impressionism but this time voyaging through the realm of melancholy beauty rather than its terrifying counterpart.
I wrote this piece very quickly in 2021 for a friend who had just lost a family member. This week, I learned another friend’s father recently died. This song is dedicated to him.
Although mournful, I don’t think the piece is despondent. Sometimes it sounds to me more like an expression of existential melancholia, and pondering the void is often a source of life and strength.
