A few weeks ago, after I’d posted Chosen Again and California, Still in almost-adjacent weeks, my friend Sarah said something like, “Do you think your music is more earnest than you are in person?” I had a similar thought last year, which prompted me to write a few darkly funny songs, but I haven’t posted those yet. Instead, here is a tune I made the day after Sarah said that. It is about strawberry. I think the original rough vocal idea was something like “set me free” but, with Sarah in mind, things took a mumbly, murky, fruity turn.
There is also a version without the vocals for the Philistines and/or connoisseurs among you.
Pie sounds nice. You know I love to eat. What's that? It's warm? I love the sound of pie. Was it buy one get one free? Yes, I'd like to eat. I'll eat it with a spoon. But it won't feed my heart: Pie don't feed the soul. Now I need another slice: I waited for so long and finished it too quick. What else is in the fridge? It's over but I still want more. Will berry feed my heart? There's nothing can I do, And I waited for so long. I know there's no more pie. So maybe fruit? Strawberry? Strawberry! I want strawberry. Give me strawberry. Strawberry. Strawberry. Strawberry. Strawberry. Strawberry. Strawberry. Strawberry. Strawberry.
